Hair Care Instructions

The Joy of a cheap price is soon forgotten...
When you realize what you got for your money!

Congratulations, your bad hair days are over, finally! With minimum care, you should be able to enjoy the benefits of your new hair for weeks, even months. This depends on the hair quality level you've selected, and how you take care of the hair. At LA Hair we are forever looking for ways to make your hair care dollars stretch farther. When you follow these simple instructions you get the most out of your human hair dollars.

First, let us understand HUMAN HAIR IS HUMAN HAIR even when used in hair weaves and extensions. You MUST shampoo, condition and groom it regularly to avoid dry, matted, tangled hair. You may experience some minor shedding even in the best quality brands when your hair-do is new. However, this should stop in a few days once the loose strands (caused by cutting the weft) are all out.

You must shampoo your hair at least once a week, but not daily. (ask Genie for specifics) You must also shampoo and condition after swimming, spa services, exercising, and especially after exposing hair to salt water, or perspiration.

You should use good quality shampoo and conditioning products. (Nexxus, L'Oreal, Keracare, Mizani, Paul Mitchell, and Redkin products or any other products you have used successfully on your own hair).

In addition, you should also use a good daily leave-in (do not rinse) conditioner. Products like Keracare "Leave-in", Paul Mitchell's "The Conditioner", Infusium 23 and Nuetragena "Triple Moisture Silk-Touch Leave in Cream" are good choices. If the hair is damaged from bleaching, excessive heat, over shampooing, or other products that contain high levels of alcohol use "The Conditioner" by Paul Mitchell. If hair is not bleached or otherwise damaged I recommend Infusium 23 for a daily leave-in conditioner to keep hair moist and soft. Infusium 23 is light weight, and will not leave a messy, heavy build up on the hair. John Frieda "Frizz Ease Creme" and "Night Serum" are also good choices for the daily maintenance of your new extension hair, as well as, your own.
Do Not Use: Alberto VO5, Clairol, Revlon these products usually contain high concentrations of alcohol. Alcohol is extemely drying to hair.

You can make your own leave-in conditioner: Mix regular conditioner with 50% water.

For bleached and/or chemical damaged hair use Paul Mitchell "The Conditioner" at night. Never use Reconstructive or protein intense conditioner(s) or any other kind of conditioner(s) intended for professional use only. When used improperly, these products can damage your hair.

You should apply a leave-in conditioner for the first 10 days you have your new hair as directed:

Using the misting setting on a spray bottle, spray all hair lightly. Be sure to lift hair up to mist your own hair, then use a wide tooth comb or Teflon tipped brush to distribute mixture to all hair, from root to end. Moisturize daily for the first week or so, or until hair feels soft and silky. If your hair still feels dry, use Paul Mitchell "The Conditioner" at night until hair feels soft and silky.

After the desired miosture level is achieved in your new hair, use regular full strength conditioner after each shampoo. You may leave this conditioner on the hair as long as you like, the longer the better. These types of conditioners will not damage your hair. If you notice build-up on the hair, shampoo it. This build- up can cause tangles.

Detangling Hair:

If ever your hair should get tangled: Begin at the end of the hair, and work towards the scalp. (Do not comb or brush African American hair style types like J-Curl, New Deep Wave, Water Wave or Any Kinky Hair.) For Black hair care and African American curly types of hair: Use your fingers only to separate and detangle hair. Always begin by wetting the hair with leave-in conditioner or dampening with cold water. Effectively but gently, separate hair and remove any tangles. You must detangle any and all hair before shampooing. Combing dry hair when it is tangled, will break and damage the hair. It is best to always spray hair lightly with a leave-in conditioner before combing out tangles. Do not rip through hair, use gentle, light, short strokes to negotiate the tangle; Always begin at the end and work your way up to the scalp.

Shampoo:

It is best to shampoo hair in the shower. Begin by gradually wetting the hair with luke warm water (never use hot water on hair), remove any tangles first. Apply shampoo to the hair, lift each weft applying shampoo directly to scalp and scalp hair, scrub scalp vigorously. Do not scrub or tangle the hair. You should continuously pull fingers through the hair from scalp to end, to remove all tangles, you may use a shampoo comb or a vent brush for this, unless you have one of the textures mentioned above for fingers only. You may rinse your conditioner out with luke warm water. Your final rinse however, must be cool to cold water. Hot water makes hair lack luster and causes tangles. Tip: Try using the kitchen sink sprayer for final cold rinse. After the final rinse you may towel dry, air dry, or blow dry.

**European (Caucasian/My White Girls) You will need to shampoo a lot less with your extensions, because all hair needs oil, your new hair will absorb excessive oils. These natural oils will cause your extension hair to look and feel more natural after a few weeks. Excessive shampooing will strip all natural oil from hair(s) and cause your hair and the extension hair to be dry and un-ruly.

**African Americans/Blacks/Asians: It is best to let curly hair air dry, most other types of hair, like Yaky, some Body Wave, Wet 'N Wavy, Natural Indian Wavy and Curly Hair or any other curly type weave hair, usually can be blow-dryed to be worn in straight styles also. These types of hair can even be roller (wet) set or curled with hot irons. Always use low to medium heat settings on curling irons, and other appliances when styling hair. Test temperature setting on the end of a few strands of hair before using heated appliances.
Caution..."Golden Hot" brand appliances may burn/damage your extension hair.
