Hair Care Instructions

The Joy of a cheap price is soon forgotten...
When you realize what you got for your money!

Congratulations, your bad hair days are over, finally! With minimum care, you should be able to enjoy the benefits of your new hair for weeks, even months, depending on the hair quality level you select, and your daily hair care. At LA Hair we are forever looking for ways to make your hair care dollars stretch farther. When you follow these simple instructions you get the most out of your human hair dollars.

First, let us understand HUMAN HAIR IS HUMAN HAIR even when used in hair weaves and extensions. You MUST shampoo, condition and groom it regularly to avoid dry, matted, tangled hair. You may experience some minor shedding even in the best quality brands when you hair-do is new. However, this should stop in a few days once the loose strands (caused by cutting the weft) are all out.

You must shampoo your hair at least once a week and/or after swimming, spa services and exercising, and especially after exposing hair to salt water, or perspiration.

You should use good quality shampoo and conditioning products. (Nexxus, L'Oreal, Paul Mitchell's (Leave-in The Conditioner) Redkin products, etc). Other products like Neutrogena Triple Moisture Silk-Touch Leave in Cream and John Frieda Frizz Ease Creme Serum Night are also good choices for hair damaged by bleaching or other drying chemicals. Do Not Use: Alberto VO5, Clairol or Revlon type products. These products contain high concentrations of alcohol. Alcohol is extemely drying, and causes hair to break.

Make your own leave in conditioner:

By mixing regular conditioner with 50% water you can create your own leave in conditioner. For a good daily leave-in conditioner: I recommend Infusium 23 It is light weight, and will not leave hair heavy or cause a messy build up. Do not use Reconstructive or protein intense conditioner(s) intended for professional use only. they may damage your hair.

Applying Conditioner:

Using the misting setting on a spray bottle, spray all hair lightly. Be sure to lift hair up to mist your own hair, then use a wide tooth comb or Teflon tipped brush to distribute mixture to all hair, from root to end. Moisturize daily for the first week or so, or until hair feels soft and silky. Caution over conditioning, or using the wrong type of products, can cause build up and make hair heavy or sticky, even greasy.

Use a leave in conditioner for daily maintenance (do not rinse) Use regular full strength conditioner after each shampoo. If you notice build-up on the hair, shampoo it. This build- up can cause tangles.

Detangling Hair:

Begin at the end of the hair, and work towards the scalp. (Do not comb or brush African American hair style types like J-Curl, New Deep Wave, Water Wave or Any Kinky Hair.) For Black hair care and African American curly types of hair, to de-tangle this type hair use your fingers only. Begin by wetting the hair with leave in conditioner. Effectively but gently, separate hair and remove any tangles. You must detangle these curly hair types with fingers before you shampooing. Combing dry hair when it is tangled, will damage the hair. Always spray hair lightly with a leave in conditioner before combing out tangles. Do not rip through hair, use gentle short strokes, negotiate the tangle; begin at the end and work your way up to the scalp.

Shampoo:

It is best to shampoo hair (at least once a week) in the shower. Begin by gradually wetting the hair with luke warm water (never use hot water on hair). Apply shampoo to the hair, lift each track applying shampoo directly to scalp hair, scrub scalp vigorously, do not scrub or tangle the hair. Pull fingers through hair from scalp to end, to remove all tangles, on non-kinky hair you may use a shampoo comb or a vent brush. Always rinse hair with cold water. Hot water makes hair tangle.

After Shampoo Conditioner:

Apply a moisturizing, rinse out type conditioner. Follow manufacturer's directions. Brush this through hair with Teflon tipped vent brush. (Use fingers only on African American, Black or very curly hair). Cold Rinse: Rinse hair with tepid to cool water, the cooler the better (cold water actually helps hair shine). Towel dry, air dry, or blow dry.

*You may want to do your final rinse in a sink, cold water in the shower can be very uncomfortable.

**European (Caucasian/My White Girls) You will need to shampoo a lot less with your extensions, because all hair needs
oil, your new hair will absorb excessive oils. These natural oils will cause your extension hair to look and feel more natural after a few weeks.

It is best to let kinky/curly hair air dry, most other types of hair, like Yaky, Body Wave, Euro Silky, Wet 'N Wavy, Natural Indian Wavy and Curly Hair or any other curly weave hair types, can be blow-dryed to be worn straight. These types of hair can even be roller (wet) set. Always use low to medium heat settings on curling irons, and other appliances when styling hair. Test temperature setting on the end of a few strands of hair before using heated appliances.
Caution..."Golden Hot" brand appliances may burn/damage hair.

Your hair will look better and last longer if you follow these basics. Do not sleep on hair. never sleep on wet hair! Never use HOT water on hair. If possible wrap hair around your head or braid/twist hair and pile on top of head at bed time. Ask Genie how to take just 3-4 minutes a night to do a "Genie Roll" and preserve your hair styles from shampoo to shampoo.
